Rwanda holds a special place in the hearts of many people who have traveled there whether for tea, coffee, humanitarian work or simply a sense of adventure. A notably small country, with just over 10,000 square miles of high-altitude forests and shimmering lakes.
Rwanda is stunning, clean and green...it holds mountain gorillas, tea fields, stunning scenery. From the shimmering waters of Lake Kivu to the mountain rainforest of Nyungwe National Park, Rwanda has much to offer. Known as the “land of a thousand hills,” it is home to some of the most dazzling scenery in the world.
What's even more impressive than their scenery is their story. The country has risen from a complicated past of unimaginable pain and devastation from genocide and has rebuilt on tenants of sustainability, entrepreneurship, cleanliness, health. Rwanda is now the most densely populated country in Africa, and it is through this rebirth that Rwandans are paving the way to a brighter future and leaving a trail of inspiration for the rest of the world. Forbes Africa refers to Rwanda as the “poster child of progress.”
This is all testament to the resilience of the people and the joy that they cultivate through song, dance, and community. The people of Rwanda are joyful, hard-working individuals that take pride in their country. There are certain characteristics of Rwanda that make it the ideal choice for partnership with Firepot Nomadic Teas:
- Rwanda is clean
- Rwanda is pro sustainability
- Rwanda is for entrepreneurship
- Rwanda is full of dance and joy
- Rwanda supports women
We source the tea for Firepot Chai, Music City Morning and Firepot Breakfast from an award winning tea factory in Rwanda called SORWATHE LTD, founded in 1975. The tea plantation employs 3,000 Rwandans in the factory and fields, producing approximately 6.5 million pounds of high quality black, green, oolong, organic and specialty teas each year for sale around the world. It is truly a magical place on Earth and worth a visit to their charming guesthouse when travel becomes a reality again! Watching the morning mist rise over the mountains and tea fields with a cup clean, local tea is a priceless experience for any tea lover.
We are proud to partner with our Rwandan friends and to be able to bring to you an opportunity to not just taste the highest quality organic Rwandan teas, but an opportunity to become part of progress. We are a global community, and when one of us thrives...we all celebrate that success together.
