We are proud to host Masaya & Co at our Nashville Firepot Tea Bar this Fall 2020. Shop a selection of handmade contemporary furniture made out of renewable hardwoods from Nicaragua. The pieces are designed with traditional artisanal techniques with elements of modern design. Our passion for sustainability and environmental awareness led us to an amazing partnership with Masaya & Co, and we’re eager to share it with you.
Founded in 2008 by Aram and Michael Terry, the original Nicaraguan sister company “Maderas Sostenibles” had the vision of creating a socially and environmentally sustainable business. The company grew to include tree farms on deforested land as well as the utilization of wood products that were left behind after the destruction of Hurricane Felix. Their passion is to celebrate the natural beauty of Nicaragua, both of nature and of the artisanal talent that the country boasts, while at the same time repairing, restoring and reviving the forests for future generations.
That vision is coming to fruition! Maderas Sostenibles has grown and now manages over 1100 acres of newly re-forested land that provides a long-term renewable source of timber such as teak, mahogany, Spanish cedar, rosewood, ipe, other valuable hardwoods and other organic agricultural products. In this partnership with local Nicaraguans, the forest is replenished and the harvests are sustainable.
In 2012, their mill and carpentry shop opened in Managua to process sustainably harvested wood and create furniture designs. Because of the environmentally responsible production process, their business grew. Their products are handmade to last for generations. Local Nicaraguan artisans from Masaya, Managua, Nagarote and La Paz Centro bring the designs to life, handcrafting lumber into furniture at their sawmill and carpentry shop. With furniture for your entryway, living room, dining room, bedroom and office, they now have showrooms in Nashville and in Costa Rica.
We invite you into the Nashville Tea Bar any time during regular hours in October. You can sip a cup of your favorite organic tea and browse through the items available.
